SERDANG, Sept 10 - UPM's ICC Team, Langit Putra received the best technical category Award at the 15-year Public Universities Innovation and Creative (KIK) Convention at the UTeM Melaka on August 21, 2019.

Langit Putra as the only group representing UPM from Putra Science Park and the TNCPI Office won the Best Performance Award for two consecutive years at the University of Malaya Convention at the University of Malaya in 2018. The group also received the Gold Award for projects carried out during a year beginning July 2018.

The award was presented by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melaka Technical University (UTeM), YBhg Prof Dr Raha Abdul Rahim at the KIK UA Convention & closing ceremony in the courtyard of the UTeM Chancellor's Hall.

Prof. Dr. Raha Abdul Rahim in his speech at the 15th KIK awards ceremony,  said the convention also provided new and creative aspirations, knowledge, techniques and new ideas for better service quality and management in organization.

"The implementation of the ICT has also created a strong, innovative, creative and forward-thinking work culture to enhance the quality of work and the effectiveness of the delivery system in line with the country's highest leadership aspirations.

According to Asrizam Esam, head of the Langit Putra group "The presentation on air-based innovation is a unique, creative group theme and the key to success as well as the neat, clear and poetic presentation of the group members' presentation".

"The high commitment of each member as well as their strong work ethic has been a key factor in the success of the Skyridder innovation project which has also received the attention of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council," he said.

The Group innovation project is to overcome the difficulties of removing old wires and debris on the lamp posts by inventing Skyridder innovations and the Wire Free Program around the UPM campus.

Skyridder Innovation is a single-handed wire cutter that uses unique techniques to cut old wire at a higher cost, which is cheaper, effective, higher access and lighter than the more expensive imported tools. This tool is adjustable which makes it easy for users to use it at every wire removal job.

This tool not only keeps UPM free from the rusting of wires left on the lamp posts and pollutes the scene, it also helps Local Authorities like MPSJ or the community in combating illegal advertising. The innovation was also shared with the Taman Sinaran KRT Community, Kajang Selangor for testing by the community.

Members of the Langit Putra group are Asrizam Esam, Norliyana Kamarudin, Hafliza Hussin, Norazlin Monir, Mohd Mas'ataillah Ismail, and Mohammad Hisham Omar from the PSP and Mohd Izzat Nor Adzmi and Shahriman Hashim, from the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) UPM is also the facilitator of this group.

Skyridder's innovations have also gained copyright (technical drawings) and in the pursuit of industry partners for the purpose of commercializing this tool. The ICC Convention is the first annual program organized by public universities in Malaysia and Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia University (UTHM) will host the upcoming convention.
