PUTRAJAYA, March 24 - Lecturer from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Khatijah Mohamad Yusoff was selected as the recipient of the 14th Anugerah Tokoh Akademik Negara (AAN) here. AAN is given in recognition of the contributions of academics who have demonstrated good achievements in teaching and learning (PdP), discovery of new knowledge, scientific publications and partnerships in the mass media, creation of creative designs as well as the transfer and development of knowledge for communities and communities across continents.

Prof. Emerita Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail from USM and nine other lecturers from various local public institutions of higher learning (IPT) were also awarded with Anugerah Tokoh Akademik Negara covering six different categories. Since its introduction in 2006, a total of 86 people have been awarded AAN titles.

The prestigious award presentation ceremony was presented by the Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and witnessed by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad.

Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Khatijah's selection is based on her services and contributions to the poultry farming industry making her the 3rd Houghton Lecturer by the UK-based Houghton Trust (2001), the Carlos J Finlay Prize (2005) for Work in Microbiology and the Albert Einstein Medal by UNESCO.
