CLARIVATE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST ASIA INNOVATION AWARDS

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) spearheading the Academic Institutions Category from Malaysia in the prestigious Clarivate South and Southeast Asia Innovation Awards 2021.

This award is held virtually on 21st September 2021 to honour the most innovative commercial enterprises, research organisations and academic institutions from the South and Southeast Asia region that excel in accelerating the pace of innovation, thus making UPM the only local university to win this prestigious award on par with other prestigious universities such as Cebu Technological University from the Philippines and National University of Singapore.

Up to 600 industries with diverse backgrounds from across academic, government and corporate sectors participated in the virtual event with only 27 organisations receive the Innovation Awards this year.

All 27 recipients were announced during The Virtual Innovation forum hosted by Clarivate, a trusted global leader that provides insight and trusted information to accelerate the pace of innovation by stressing the importance of “Driving sustainable innovation: More critical than ever” in the forum this year.

 “Recognitions of innovation are the key driver and recipe for the long-term sustainable economic growth,” according to Ms Ridhma Dhar, Regional Client Manager of Clarivate Singapore.

UPM Director of Putra Science Park, Research and Innovation, Prof. Dato’ Mohd Hair Bejo expresses his appreciation for the award recognition by Clarivate in highlighting UPM’s achievement to nurture and develop high impact, globally competitive and market-driven research.

“UPM is highly driven and committed to becoming top innovators in the region and continuously developing high impact research, aimed at improving Malaysia’s stand at global level,” he said.

The award criteria are based on the analysis number of patent volume, citation volume, patent success and the level of patent globalisation from Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) and Derwent Patent Citations Index (DPCI).

Among the recipients of Clarivate South and Southeast Asia Innovation Awards 2021 from Malaysia are, Malaysia Palm Oil Berhad (MPOB) in the category of Government Research Organisation and Top Glove Corporation Berhad for commercial enterprises.
