Kuala Lumpur: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) through the Faculty of Science and the Centre for the Foundation of Agricultural Sciences as well as the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences managed to produce oleate serum that effectively counteracts the effects of hyperpigmentation and freckles.

The serum was developed using nanoemulsion technology through 15 years of rigorous scientific research and research by UPM experts.

Researcher from the Faculty of Science and Centre for Agricultural Science Foundation UPM, Dr Siti Efliza Ashari said Oleate as the main component in the production of this serum is a brightening substance that has proven to be effective as anti-tyorisinase, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant.

"This serum is commercialised under the name of BioEsst Nanoemulsion Serum with Oleate offering a difference to consumers compared to beauty products that are on the market by focusing on the content of active ingredients that are proven to be safe and leave no traces of pain on the face after their use.

"A beauty serum formulated with 100 percent effective ingredient Oleate has proven effective at addressing freckles, dark patches, acne scars, and dry skin," she said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Head of Research from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Prof Dr Rosfarizan Mohamad said the serum combines several active ingredients such as tween 80, castor oil, lemon oil, xantham wheat, potassium sorbate and kojic monooleate.

"It turned out to be effective in reducing the production of excess melanin," he said.

With a 10 percent concentration of monooleate kojic content, the serum acts to fade freckles scars from the inside thus promoting the formation of new, healthier and brighter skin layers and ensuring that facial hygiene can be maintained at an optimal level.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director, Promotion and Commercialisation Division of Putra Science Park UPM, Assoc Prof Dr Wan Nurhayati Wan Ab Rahman said, she welcomes collaboration from industry partners to bring research outcome to the market so that the benefits can be shared with all parties targeted.
