SERDANG, MARCH 25- A group of researchers once again earned the name of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM by winning 4 gold medals and the Outstanding Innovation Award for the International Innovation Awards 2022 category at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2022 which was held virtually from 21 to 25 March 2022.

This achievement marks UPM's latest record by winning the Outstanding Innovation Award, making all ten contested entries receive awards by winning four gold, four silver and two bronze medals. 

The listed gold medal recipients are Soil and Crop Enhancer by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Osumanu Haruna from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Upm Bintulu Campus, BioEsst Nanoemulsion Skin Serum with Oleate by ChM. Dr. Siti Efliza Ashari, MyNutriKidney by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulfitri' Azuan Mat Daud, Putra Pro-Cut and Putra Pro Fast Snap Innovative Apparatus for Marcotting Technique by Md Rozaidi bin Md Yusof from Putra Agricultural Centre.

Soil and Crop Enhancer created by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Osumanu Haruna achieved double success by winning gold and the Outstanding Innovation Award has gained the attention of the jury through the benefits and various advantages of innovation such as rejuvenating soil and crop productivity, promoting yield growth, reducing fertilizer consumption, labor costs, and shorter harvesting time.

In addition, this innovation can increase grain productivity and soil quality in addition to contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution. Through this innovation, too, farmers can optimize their farm input at a much lower cost.

MTE is a prestigious technology exhibition held annually. It is organized by Professional Trade Exhibitions and Meeting Planners in collaboration with several industry partners.

This year's MTE 2022 is still under the Covid-19 pandemic with the theme "Embracing the New Norm and Moving to New Frontiers".  It is the second year of its virtual event to celebrate its 21st anniversary.

MTE 2022 is towards celebrating innovation and recognizing the outstanding achievements researchers have received the participation of more than 300 innovations from 18 countries including Thailand and Canada. 

The success achieved by UPM this time proves that UPM's research products have managed to steal the global focus and further strengthen UPM's position as the leading research university in Malaysia.

Through this participation, UPM showcases innovation and technology in agriculture, engineering, tropical and forestry, as well as modern languages and communications.

Congratulations to the researchers who have worked hard and are committed in producing high-class innovations and have successfully made the name of UPM internationally.

Upm Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari congratulated all participants. He hopes that the award and recognition received will continue to be an incendiary to UPM researchers and continue to enhance the efforts of technology development and innovation to ensure that the benefits can be enjoyed by the industry, the people and the country.
