UPM BAGS 9 GOLD FOR PECIPTA 2022

Kelantan, 3 November – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) once again excelled in the International Higher Education Institutions Creation Conference and Expo (PECIPTA) 2022 by winning 9 Gold, 4 Silver & 4 Bronze from 2nd to 3rd November 2022 held at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Campus Bachok.

 

Director of Putra Science Park, Prof. Ir. Dr. Hj. Kamarul Arifin Ahmad, said UPM once again continued its tradition of excellence with outstanding achievements recorded. 

 

“Putra Science Park as the Technology Transfer Office in charge of managing the intellectual properties of UPM remains committed to building alliances and advancing partnerships with industry to ensure the innovation and technology of UPM would achieve its desired impact,” he says. 

The International Higher Education Institutions Creation Expo (PECIPTA) 2022 is a biannual event organized by the Ministry of Higher Education (PECIPTA) together with its partner institutions of higher learning with the main objective of bringing together researchers from all institutions to celebrate the innovation of the country's research results from various clusters. 

 

Themed, Innovation, Creativity, Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Society, PECIPTA 2022 brings together industry players and researchers to strengthen industry networks and provide platforms and markets for the latest ideas and innovations globally. 

 

PECIPTA 2022 marks its 11th anniversary with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) hosting the event this time. The hybrid entry mode includes online and physical judging sessions and the shortlisted innovations need to compete physically for a final round at UMK, Campus Bachok. 

 

UPM lined up 20 entries with 10 innovations successfully shortlisted for the physical competition. Among the winners listed as gold medalists were Prof. Ts. Thariq Hameed Sultan from the Faculty of Engineering UPM, Prof. Ts. Dr. Hidayah Arifin from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecules of Science UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ina Salwany from the UPM Institute of Biosciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurulfiza from the Faculty of Biosciences UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazlina Shaari from the Faculty of Design and Architecture UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhashila Hashim from the Faculty of Engineering UPM, Ts. Dr. Norhayu Asib from the Faculty of Agriculture UPM, ChM. Dr. Siti Efliza from the Faculty of Science UPM, and Dr. Ahmad Haniff Jaafar from the Faculty of Food Science Technology UPM. 

 

Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamed Thariq Bin Haji Hameed Sultan, through the innovation of Blade for Pineapple Leaf Fiber Extractor Machine, is the production of machine innovation that saves the duration of pineapple fiber production and helps to improve high quality. With the use of the technology produced, it can reduce the waste of pineapple crops into an innovation that uses the concept of waste to wealth. 

 

Prof. Ts. Dr. Hidayah Ariffin through the innovation of Nanocellulose: A versatile Nanoadditive is the first to produce nanocellulose using palm oil biomass with effective efficacy quality and suitable for use as an additive in various industries such as plastics, composite materials, food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals to enhance the characteristics of the products produced. 

 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ina Salwany Md Yasin from the UPM Institute of Biosciences, developed the innovation of VIVAC UPM: Aquafeed Vaccine Against Vibriosis in Marine Fishes. This particular vaccine was developed for marine fish life. Interestingly, the vaccine is given as food to boost immunity to fight vibriosis. 

 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurulfiza Mat Isa from IBS UPM through innovation, Crisprvac CFUPMT27 A Fowl Adenovirus Vaccine. This innovation contains a characteristic of the genetic sequence (the area of the fiber protein shaft). This innovation of the taratenuat vaccine is beneficial as it can reduce the cost and duration of production and can stimulate high antibody titer results against poultry adenovirus infection which can help protect against Inclusion Body Hepatitis (IBH) disease. 

 

 

Ts. Dr. Norhayu Asib from the Faculty of Agriculture UPM, through the innovation of Milagro Matado, an insecticide developed using an organic composition that has proven to be effective and effective while saving costs with only a small amount of use. This innovation has provided savings to the industry while maintaining the quality of environmentally friendly and non-harmful insecticides. 

 

Dr. Ahmad Haniff Jaafar from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology UPM, through the innovation of Cosmos Caudatus the famous king's powder to overcome the problem of diabetes. This innovation is designed in powder form so that it can be combined into different types of food at any time.

 

ChM. Dr. Siti Efliza from the Faculty of Science UPM, through the innovation of BioEsst Kojic Serum, is formulated with a 10% OLeate concentration that helps to get healthy skin radiant, freckle-free & acne scars. This serum uses nanoemulsion technology to produce a serum quality that is easily absorbed into the skin layers and protects against excessive melanin production. 

 

PECIPTA 2022 received over 500 entries this time from various corporate sectors, schools, and public and private institutions of higher learning. More than 80% of the innovations contested in PECIPTA 2022 are ready to be commercialized to the industry. 

 

The opening ceremony of PECIPTA 2022 was officiated on 2 November 2022 by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Razli Bin Che Razak, Vice-Chancellor of UMK hence launch the judging session. UPM sent a total of 5 R&D clusters including, Water and Food, Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Biodiversity, Medicine and Healthcare, and Technology and Smart Systems. 

 

The prizing ceremony was held today on 3 November 2022 by YBhg. Datuk Dr. Mohd Zabri Bin Yusoff, Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development), Ministry of Higher Education. 

 

Also present at the ceremony is the Director of Putra Science Park, YBhg. Prof. Ir. Dr. Hj. Kamarul Arifin Ahmad.
