UPM Bags Three Awards at Selangor R&D Innovation Expo 2022

9 October 2022, KUALA LUMPUR- Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) excelled by winning three awards at the Selangor Research & Development Innovation Expo (SRIE) 2022 held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 6 to 9 October. 

 

SRIE 2022 is a research exhibition, an annual major innovation development that allows participants to showcase their latest creations and ideas to investors, manufacturers and marketers in ASEAN and internationally. 

 

Themed Distrupt Today, Create Tomorrow, SRIE 2022 marks its 3rd time event paving the way to encourage the involvement of direct industry partners to make joint investments, strategic partnerships and expand business networks while strengthening Golden State's position in the world of global innovation.

 

UPM recorded excellence in this exhibition by winning the Champion and Runner-up for the Selangor State Innovation Award 2022 category of the Institute of Higher Education (IPT) and the first place for the Information Technology Cluster 

 

 The award is the result of the high commitment of researchers in developing sustainable and competitive technologies in line with the government's efforts to improve the quality of national research globally. 

The recipient of the first place award of the Information Technology Cluster was Prof. Ts. Dr. Zuriati Ahmad Zulkarnain from the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology with the Z Wallet innovation: a secure, flexible cashless application, and using blockchain technology that has a wide range of advantages over the centralised e-wallet system. 

 

This technology provides consumers with a safe and convenient online cash transaction process that promotes the use of electronic wallets in line with the country's aspiration towards Cashless Transactions. 

In addition, NET-PEAT technology : Peat Fire Prevention and Early Warning System Using LoT System developed by the Chief Researcher, Prof. Ir. Dr. Aduwati Sali from the Faculty of Engineering, Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP) together with MIMOS produces the IoT system at RMFR, which aims to complement the manual peatland data collection. 

The Budders from the Putra Agricultural Centre UPM won the runner-up of the Selangor Innovation Award 2022 through the innovation of Putra Pro-Cut and Putra Fast-Snap, a tool used specifically for tree marcotting techniques. 

 

The first place winner of the Information Technology Cluster took home RM 10,000.00 in cash, while the first place winner took home RM 5,000 and the runner-up RM 2,500 with a certificate of participation. 

 

The prizes and certificates of participation were presented by Selangor State Secretary, Dato' Haris Kasim at the 3rd Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo (SRIE) 2022 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) here, today.

 

Putra Science Park as the centre in charge of UPM's intellectual property will continue to highlight UPM's innovation and technology to the industry and the public so that its benefits can be shared by the community in line with efforts to improve the quality of the country's research results. 

 

Also present at the ceremony was the Director of Putra Science Park (PSP) UPM, Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamarul Arifin Ahmad.
