SERDANG 30th November 2021- UPM administrator’s innovations have been named as recipients of Par Excellence Award at the 46th International Convention on Quality Control Circles – 2021 (ICQC-2021) Hyderabad, Telangana India competition which was held online from 24 to27 November 2021.

ICQCC is an international prestigious award organised annually accompanied by the best Excellence Team from government and private agencies of each country. The Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) as the organiser, adopted the theme “Quality Concepts Facilitating Societal and Economic Turnaround” in line with the global pandemic on the society and economy of every country that is working to recover from its effects.

This theme demonstrates the continuous efforts for better improvement and innovation to Quality Concept practitioners around the world despite the pandemic by accelerating the mindset towards innovative solutions and developing various solutions in their respective industries.

According to Muhazam Mansor, the Registrar of UPM, UPM is actively producing R&D and innovation among academics and administrators and will continue to elevate innovation to a higher level internationally to prove innovation excellence that will contribute to the university, community, and industry.

This recognition uplift UPM and Malaysia’s name after innovation creations from The Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) Langit Putra, Putra Science Park and LEAN Group, The Budders Putra Agricultural Centre received gold award-level recognitions from judges from South Korea and India.

Skyridder innovation led by Asrizam Esam, The Putra Sky Group, is a single-holder long string cutting tool designed to cut the binder of advertising bunting or strings on a lamppost quickly and safely, eliminating the use of stairs. This tool is designed to tackle the issue of rust string pollution and illegal advertising on lampposts quickly.

Skyridder's innovation tool possess the ability to speed up to 80% of the wire-wasting processing time that is often left behind after the bunting or advertising reel is taken down. This wire, if left on a lamppost, will pollute the view and cleanliness of the environment. Skyridder promotes better usage as compared to expensive and heavier import tools that cause an ergonomic effect after frequent use.

Skyridder's unique mechanical concept uses the lamppost itself as a retaining force to enable special cutters to work on wire cutting compared to the traditional methods such as wires and pulleys.

Among Skyridder's advantages, it also facilitates the work of local authorities and communities to remove illegal advertisements that are heavily hung on lampposts. The existence of this dumping of illegal advertisements will certainly pollute the scenery and cleanliness of the surrounding area.

According to Asrizam, the opportunity to participate in international conventions enable participants to explore more innovative ideas through the sharing of international groups that contribute to cost savings and work efficiency from China, India, South Korea, and others.

Meanwhile, Putra Pro-Cut & Putra Fast-Snap’s innovation led by Rozaidi Yusof from The Budders Group is a tool of tree breeding through the Marcotting process that aims at promoting efficient usage, increasing productivity, cost saving and preventing injuries from happening.

These two groups participation from UPM is one of the top 81 Excellence Teams in Malaysia coordinated by the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) aims to strengthen the culture of creativity and innovation in an organisation.
