UPM Terima Lawatan Kerja Menteri Pendidikan TInggi

UPM Welcomes Delegation Visit from the Education Minister

Serdang, 27 January - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has received a working visit from YBhg. Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in the framework of a working visit to a local university. The meeting was welcomed by all the staff of Universiti Putra Malaysia as well as introducing various innovations and technologies from the research results of Universiti Putra Malaysia. 

 

Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia, YBhg. Prof Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman and senior management representatives of the university comprising the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), YBhg. Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry & Community Partnership), YBhg. Prof. Dr. Ir. B. T Hang Tuah Baharudin and representatives of the university's senior management welcomed the delegation of the Minister of Education to the university. 

Putra Science Park as the responsible organisation that manages UPM's intellectual property took the opportunity to showcase the research  outcomes from various research sectors including agriculture, machine engineering, health sciences, food technology and many more. 





The Edu-Park section also showcases the edu-tourism sector which offers travel and study modules that were specifically developed to suit all ages. Edu-Park is one of the sections under Putra Science Park, generating incomes  through learning packages that focus on 11 tourist spots around the university compound. 

 

The visit portrays various innovations showcased to the Minister including Milagro Matado innovation, an eco-friendly pesticide spray by Ts. Dr Norhayu Asib from the Faculty of Agriculture UPM, Cosmos Cuppa Tea innovation by Dr Ahmad Haniff Jaafar from the Faculty of Food Science who developed a tea made of cosmos caudatus which is full of nutrients and has anti-diabetic properties to help reduce blood glucose levels and improve quality of life. 

 

Moreover, the research exhibition was also joined by Prof. Dr. Rafii who developed the Padi U Putra innovation, the quality of paddy seeds that has been proven to increase the income of farmers through high harvest and reduce the cost of production of fungicides. 

In addition to that, Dr Siti Nurhayati Khairatun from Sari Rasa Paste, funded by Market Validation Research Grant showcased the versatile ready to use pumpkin based sauce and paste that come in three flavour varieties including cheese, spicy and original pumpkin sauce. 

 

Also present during the visit was YBhg. Prof Ir Dr Hj Kamarul Arifin Ahmad, Director of Putra Science Park, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Rusmawati Said, Deputy Director of Intellectual Property Division and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Nurhayati Wan Ab Rahman, Deputy Director of the Innovation Promotion and Commercialisation Section.
